Racial profiling

Ali Dizaei's comments will relieve everyone who despairs when the "war on terror" is used as a pretext for peddling stereotypes.

Race-based policing has well-documented racist effects. London's black population is four times more likely to be stopped than whites - but the arrest rate resulting from these stops is almost the same at around 10 per cent.

Race doesn't indicate guilt, but our policies make some races more likely to be unfairly detained.
