Brent and Harrow Green Party - Press Release - 1 February 2001

Greens select candidate for Brent East

Brent and Harrow Green Party have selected Simone Aspis as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Brent East constituency. Simone is a disability rights activist and a self-employed consultant and trainer. She has lived in Brent for 10 years and is well known in the local community.

Simone said at the hustings: "I am delighted to represent the Green Party at the forthcoming General Election. A Green Brent would mean better and cheaper transport, cleaner air to breath, safer and cleaner streets, a healthy environment and both paid and unpaid leisure and cultural opportunities for all."

Simone has stood as a candidate in three previous elections. In the GLA elections last May, she was the Green Party's constituency candidate for Brent and Harrow and gained 9% of the vote.

Simone has campaigned on inclusive education for disabled people for People First and is an active member of Brent Association of Disabled People and Brent Advocacy Concerns. She is a member of the Green Party Education Policy Working Group and has contributed to Green Party policy making in a number of areas.

Simone has given interviews for both local and national radio and has written for several newspapers. Last autumn Simone presented the Channel 4 program "Your Voice, Your Vote", which looked at how the voting system could be made more accessible to people with learning difficulties.
