Transport service has to improve [editor's title}

London's transport often does not feel fit for the twenty-first century, let alone the 2012 Olympic Games. Take the multi-million pound refurbishment of Wembley Park tube station, a central hub for Brent.

The southbound Metropolitan line is not even equipped with an accurate real-time information display. Passengers who wish to travel beyond Baker Street cannot rely upon the time indicator for an advertised Aldgate train and often get frustrated waiting for a train to their preferred destination when they would have been better off changing lines at Baker Street.

When recently quizzing a driver about the display he admitted, "I wouldn't believe that, we don't". I've found that one way round this is to change trains at Finchley Road where the information tends to be more accurate, the staff tend not to use the tannoy when it would be drowned out by noise, and the correction notices tend to be correct!

The Greens have long promoted better walking and cycling provision across together with integrated public transport. Yet the long-awaited bus stand at Wembley Park also fails passengers in that there is no display at all. Again, one way round this is to walk up to Brent Town Hall or catch a bus for one stop to find a display. But that's hardly an integrated solution - I know of a pensioner who finds it prudent never to wait for a bus if there's no expected time of arrival!
