'Star letter: More violations by ASDA lorries' [editor's
title] In May 2008 and July 2007, the Wembley Observer reported on the Green Party’s ongoing campaign to put a stop to Asda lorries forcing pedestrians into motoring traffic outside a Wembley superstore (“How Asda delivery drivers are putting lives at risk"). Since then we have made formal representations to Asda, demanding action from both the manager of the offending store and the CEO of Asda UK. In their reply, Asda Head Office claim that they find the problem "difficult to overcome" and "hope for a resolution in the near future". Despite this acknowledgment by Asda, and the negative publicity accruing to them, we have continued to witness and record road safety violations. The store is apparently quite prepared to continue in its dangerous and illegal practice. How can Asda be allowed to get away with this when your common or garden motorist would have been fined, penalised and possibly sentenced? Is this one law for the masses and another for big business, right under the nose of Brent Town Hall? Asda have completely failed to act on our repeated warnings about the danger posed by their articulated lorries to pedestrians. Until or unless pedestrians are allowed to cross safely, these deliveries must stop. Our campaign continues.
